Where to look if Sync Issues are occurring:
In the Menu Bar on your Mac, in the top right-hand corner near the clock, there will be the symbol for OneDrive / SharePoint. The icon is a small cloud.
If there is a "Sync" issue with one or more of your files the icon will most likely show a small (x) at the bottom right of the icon, as per the below:
If you were to click on the Cloud, it will provide the current status of your Mac’s connection to OneDrive, and should any errors be present, this will show as per the below:
You can click on "There is a sync issue in OneDrive" and the app will guide you through where these errors are and how to fix them. Any errors will more than likely be a result of one or more of the below:
Invalid Characters:
If a file or folder you’re trying to save to OneDrive contains any of the characters below, it will prevent files and folders from syncing as expected.
Rename the file or folder to remove these characters before you upload it as otherwise, no one else will be able to see the folder or file.
These characters are: " * : < > ? / \ | # %
(Leading and trailing spaces in file or folder names are also not allowed.)
The trailing whitespace (i.e. an accidental extra stroke of the space bar) is the most common of these and is very easily done. You can right-click on a file or folder and choose to 'rename' in order to visually see any occurring whitespace.
Invalid File or Folder Names:
All of the below are not permitted to be used as file or folder names:
.lock, CON, PRN, AUX, NUL, COM0 - COM9, LPT0 - LPT9, _vti_, desktop.ini, and any filename starting with ~$.
File name and path lengths:
The entire length of the OneDrive Folder, starting from the very root cannot be longer than 520 Characters: (e.g. Macintosh HD/Users/example/OneDrive-Example/Folder Name/ File Name)
The example above was 66 characters. Please ensure that if there are a lot of folders within folders, that the names are kept to a consistent, low character count to prevent any further issues.
